Mary J. (Kamerzel) Burger

Mary J. Burger, 87, of Sugarloaf, passed away Wednesday morning at Hometown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a short illness.

Born in Hazleton, June 6, 1930, she was daughter of the late William and Turia Evelyn (Bond) Kamerzel, and had spent most of her life in Sugarloaf.

She was a homemaker and had also worked at the former Sadock’s Shirt Factory, Sybertsville.  She was a member of Christ Church, United Church of Christ, Conyngham.  She loved to play bingo and embroidering, but most of all, loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Russell C. Burger, who passed away October 28, 1998; a daughter Jane Hardy, November 6, 2009; a granddaughter Jamie Burger; and great-grandson Carter Burger.

Surviving are four children, David and his wife Carol, Nescopeck; Sandy Donnell, Hazle Township; Donald and his wife Jackie, Hubert, NC; and Daniel and his wife Susan, Hazleton; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters Ann Bruno, Sugarloaf; and Ruth Geisick, Conyngham; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Thursday at 8 pm from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, with her pastor, Sandy Murphy officiating.  Interment in Conyngham Union Cemetery, will take place privately.  Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 6 pm until the time of the service.
