Salvatore A. Urso, 84 of Hazleton, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Providence Place, Drums following a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, June 15, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles and Josephine Urso and had spent the past ten years in Hazleton after moving from Staten Island.
Salvatore was a US Army Paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. He worked for AIG Insurance as a Chief Claims Auditor for all of North America. He attended Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Weston, and was a member of the American Legion in Staten Island. He was very active and passionate mentoring his children and other youth in the Boy Scouts of America and became a Scout Commissioner in Staten Island. In his younger years, Salvatore enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by brothers Vincent and Paul Urso; and sisters Angela LaBarca and Marie Urso.
Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, the former Anita L. Klages, Hazleton; four children Karen Urso and her companion Michael Greet; Staten Island; Steven Urso and his wife Kathryn, Staten Island; John Urso and his wife Catherine, Bangor, PA; and Andrew Urso and his wife Christine, New York, NY; seven grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
His funeral will be held Saturday from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums at 10:15am with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in Sacred Heart RC Church, Weston at 11am. Friends and family are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm.
