Mary Soltis Obituary

Mary Soltis, 91, of Drums, Fell Asleep in the Lord, Tuesday morning, May 18, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton following a brief illness.

Born in Hazleton, December 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna (Kupsho) Machala and spent her life in the Drums Pennsylvania area.

Mary was born and raised on a farm, worked hard all her life but always enjoyed living in the country.  She retired in 1995 from Hershey Foods, Hazleton as a Bookeeper/Administrative Assistant.  She was a member of St. Mary's BC Church, Hazleton, and had volunteered at Holy Dormition Monastery, Sybertsville.  She loved all of the gentle souls of the Fathers and Brothers, who served the monastery, both past and present as though they were members of her family.  She loved all animals especially her dogs Sandy and Lily, who have crossed the rainbow bridge, and the friendship of her cat Misty, who survives.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Michael Soltis, Jr., who passed away March 25, 2014; and a brother John Machala.
Surviving are her daughter Barbara Soltis, Drums; a great-aunt Mary Kupsho, Drums; several nieces especially Joann, Bernie, Theresa, Judy, and Elaine, whom she loved like children.  She had a special place in her heart for great-nephews David and Zach.  She is also survived by several additional cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Friday, at 10 am with a Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at St. Mary's BC Church, 227 E. Beech Street, Hazleton.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.  Friends may call at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums Thursday evening 6-8 PM.  A parastas service will be held Thursday at 7 pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Dormition Monastery, Sybertsville. Online condolences can be entered and more information is available at www.harmanfuneral.com
