Eugene E. Taney, 85, of Dorrance Township, passed away Friday afternoon at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, following a decline in health and a short stay at Mountaintop Senior Care.
Born in Springtown, July 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Earl and Gertrude (Staffenberg) Taney and spent his entire life in Dorrance Township.
Eugene was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, and later worked as a Manager for several local textile factories. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Hobbie and the church’s A.A.L group. He was a Past Master and 49 year member of Sylvania Lodge #354 Free and Accepted Masons, Shickshinny. He was the author of his autobiography titled “The Springtown Kid”, enjoyed woodworking, gardening and most of all his 5 granddaughters who were his biggest pride and joy.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by two brothers Donald and George.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Sarah E. Rinehimer; two children Jeanie Mylet and her husband Michael; and Zane Taney and his wife Deborah, all of Dorrance Township; five granddaughters Tammi Smith, Amanda Balla, Tara Fetterman, Jillian Struble, and Mallory Blasavage; ten great-grandchildren; a brother William Taney and his wife Stephanie, Dorrance Township; sister-in-laws Helen Taney, Lime Ridge; and Fern Taney, Mountaintop; and several nieces and nephews.
All services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
