Daniel Tripodi Obituary

Dr. Daniel J. Tripodi, Ph.D, 81, of Eagle Rock, passed away Wednesday evening, November 4, 2020 at St. Luke's University Hospital, Bethlehem, following a series of complications following his open-heart surgery in August.

Born in Cliffside Park, NJ, March 13, 1939, he was the son of the late Charles and Carrie (Pitetti) Tripodi and spent the past five years living in Eagle Rock Resort in Black Creek Township, PA after moving from Lebanon, NJ.

Dr. Tripodi's industrial career was with Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ. During his approximately 20 years with J&J, he held various senior positions in Technological and Strategic Planning including the Director of Biotechnology. He was instrumental in establishing several new entities within Johnson & Johnson.

He has published extensively in the fields of immunochemistry and immunology, and holds several patents, for both drugs and devices.

Since obtaining his Ph.D. in Immunochemistry from Temple University, he has held faculty positions at Temple University, University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware.

He has also served on Scientific Advisory Boards of the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the University of Utah, as well as the Biotechnology Advisory Committee for the Department of Commerce and Vice Chairman of the NJ Commision on Cancer Research (Governor’s Panel). Dr. Tripodi was also a member NJ Nut Growers Association and the Eagle Rock Resort Bocci Club.

He was a devout Catholic and a member of the Sacred Heart RC Church, Weston, PA.

He was preceded in death, by a brother, Thomas C. Tripodi.

Surviving are his wife, the former Sharon Hunsicker, to whom he was married on June 22, 1963; two sons Daniel C., of Denville, NJ; and Thomas J. and his wife Stacy, of Nazareth, PA; two grandchildren Daniel and Gianna; three nieces and three nephews.

Due to COVID precautions, his funeral will be held Privately for the immediate family only, with family friend Rev. Philip Carr-Jones officiating, at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Burial will follow in Nuremberg Cemetery.
