Dale F. Whitner, 75, of Fern Glen, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023, at his residence in Fern Glen, following a two-year illness.
Born in Shenandoah, October 29, 1947, he was the son of the late Guy and Catherine (Zimmerman) Whitner and spent the past 36 years in Fern Glen.
Dale was a Civil Engineer for over 30 years for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. He was a US Marine Corps veteran having served two tours of duty during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Nuremberg and was also a member of the Ringtown Valley Sporting Club. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, family gatherings, and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by two sisters, Lorraine Engle, and Janet Hinderliter.
Surviving are his loving wife, the former Rose Marie Gernhardt to whom he was married on November 6, 1971; three children, James Whitner and wife Crystal, Zion Grove; Holly Herring, Weston; and Jennifer Whitner, Nuremberg; four grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, Kayla Verbonitz, and Zane and Vera Herring; two brothers, Dean Whitner and wife Cecilia, Ringtown; and Don Whitner and wife Joanne, Ringtown; several nieces and nephews as well as his four legged companion Buddy.
His funeral will be held Monday, April 24, 2023, at 2 PM in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 260 Mahanoy Street, Nuremberg. Burial will follow in Nuremberg Cemetery, Zion Grove. Friends may call at the church on Monday afternoon from 1 PM until the time of the service. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
