Beatrice E. (Volk) Shenyo

Beatrice E. Shenyo, 91, of Hazleton, passed away Wednesday eveing, April 5, 2023, at her residence, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Harwood, November 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Susan (Sivar) Volk. She spent the past three years in Hazleton, after moving from Surfside Beach, SC.

Although Beatrice worked many jobs in her life, she decided to devote her life to her family and not pursue a full-time career. That is what she enjoyed the most, being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Her greatest joy was taking care of her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved being with the children and the children loved being with her. She possessed great patience and had the kindest heart and people were drawn to her.   You could come to her with any problem, and she always made time for you and was a great listener. She put others first and gave so much of herself. Her life was a life of giving and it gave her great joy.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Robert M. Shenyo, who passed away on January 19, 2016.  Married on April 24, 1954, they would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Pierce, Theresa Kisacky, Agnes Yemola, Margaret Heiser, Rita DePretis, and brothers, Joseph Wolk, and Francis Wolk. Beatrice was the last remaining sibling of seven brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two sons, David Shenyo and wife Sherri, Hazleton; and Daniel Shenyo, White Haven; two daughters, Suzanne Cerami, Hazleton; and Sharon Swire and husband Rick, Drums; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.  

Her funeral will be held privately at the convenience of the family.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
