William Patrick “Pat” Shanahan, III, 84, of Sugarloaf, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home.
Born in Whittier, NC, June 4, 1933, he was the son of the late William Patrick and Louise Mae (Folse) Shanahan, Jr. and spent the past 54 years in Sugarloaf after moving from Virginia.
Pat was a retired shipping supervisor for Bethlehem Steel. He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He was a founding charter member of the Freeland Kennel Club, and a member of the Butler Township Senior Citizens, and Bunton Bock Old Timers. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a die-hard fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife the former Doris Hunsinger, who passed away January 4, 1999.
Surviving are his son William Patrick “Pat” Shanahan, IV, and his significant other Jessica Myers, Rock Glen; his fiancé Marcia Myers, New Ringold; four brothers Daniel Shanahan, Drums; James “Eddie” Coyne, Long Branch, NJ; Michael Coyne and his wife Jeanne, Wilkes-Barre; and Martin “Bootsie” Coyne and his wife Lisa, Bloomsburg; two sisters Mary Carsia, McAdoo; and Harriet Harris and her husband Dave, Drums; a sister-in-law Janet Shanahan, Hazle Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West) 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in Sacred Heart RC Church, 554 Main Street, Weston. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 49 S. Hunter Highway, Drums. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 am. The family requests casual attire for all of the services.
