Wayne J. Hildebrand, Sr., 87, of Freeland, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025, at his residence in Freeland, following a battle with cancer.
Born in Hazleton, November 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Lloyd T. and Marguerite (Platt) Hildebrand and spent the past 34 years in Freeland, after moving from Hazleton.
Wayne graduated from Hazleton High School class of 1955. Most recently he was a truck driver for Barletta Trucking, Hazleton and had previously owned Hildebrand Excavating, Hazleton. He was a member of the Army National Guard, having served from 1961 to 1964 where he was stationed in Louisiana during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Freeland American Legion Post #473. Wayne was a fun-loving jokester who enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, listening to country music and watching Polkas and NASCAR.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his granddaughter, Dawn Hildebrand.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, the former Carol Sandrock to whom he was married on April 3, 1961; four children, David W. Hildebrand and his companion Dawn Martin, Freeland; Susan Lowmaster, Freeland; Lori A. Beam and her husband John, Drums; and Wayne J. Hildebrand, Jr. and his wife Tara Zemlansky, Walnutport; seven grandchildren, Amanda Naulty, Eric and Ryan Mumaw, and Lynn, Joseph, Jennifer and Alex Hildebrand; eight great-grandchildren, Timothy, Matthew, Tyler, Kyle, Karl, Kiptyn, Rose, and Ezra, a great-great-grandson, Kevin, two siblings, Nancy Raedler, Hazleton; and Paul Hildebrand, MI; a few nieces and nephews and Boris the cat.
