Walter A. Balliet, 89, of Fern Glen, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton following a short illness.
Born in Hazleton, April 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Walter and Marguerite (Vernon) Balliet and spent the past few years in Fern Glen after moving from West Hazleton.
Walter was a 1953 graduate of Hazle Twp. High School. He was a Pennsylvania State Trooper from 1954 to 1974 having retired as Troop Corporal from Troop N in Hazleton. Walter was a US Army veteran during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1953. He was an active volunteer and coach for local community youth sports. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Sugarloaf Golf Club. He enjoyed painting landscapes and giving them to others as gifts.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife of 65 years Barbara Staber-Balliet and 13 siblings.
Surviving are three children, JoAnn Balliet and husband Steve with whom he resided, Fern Glen; Walter Balliet and wife Cathy, Rock Glen; and Bruce Balliet, Sr. and wife Marlene, Drums; seven grandchildren, Dawn Balliet, Heather Bugda and husband Chris; Elvan Jones and wife Rachel; Jeremiah Jones; Candi Jones-Hearne and husband James; Bruce Balliet, Jr. and wife Lexi; and Molly Balliet; eight great-grandchildren, Tyra, Gavin, Ronan, Mason, Mia, Christa, James and Madison; two step-grandchildren, Steven Dubravski, Jr. and Neil Dubravski; a step-great-grandson Jacob; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
