Vera M. (Streit) Goetzl

Vera M. (Streit) Goetzl, 84, of Conyngham, passed away early Sunday morning, May 2, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton, following a brief illness.

Born in Zlin, Czech Republic, July 24, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Louise (Parak) Streit.  Vera immigrated as a young girl with her mother and brother, reuniting with her father in Maryland after several years separation.  The parents of her and her late husband Otto answered the call for skilled workers in the shoe industry along with several other Czech families.  

Vera helped support her family in her younger years as a receptionist, and for several years in clothing retail while they raised three daughters in Camp Hill and later in Conyngham.  She was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Sugarloaf and an active member of the Conyngham Lionettes Club, when it was in operation.

Vera enjoyed gardening, attending craft fairs, several social groups with friends, and bringing family together as often as possible. As a child she was a self described "tomboy" and participated in all types of sports, gymnastics, and in her teens loved jitterbugging at lunch in the high school cafeteria. She enjoyed playing tennis with friends after moving to Conyngham. She was quick to reach out and greet new neighbors and created many long lasting friendships. 

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Otto, to whom she was married 60 years before his passing on November 4, 2018.

Surviving are three daughters Vicki Wolfe and her husband Jeff, Conyngham; Cindy Houser and her husband Morry, Bloomsburg; and Tina Zilz and her husband Tony, Bloomsburg; five grandchildren Gary and Carl Wolfe, Faustino Rivera, Audrey and Logan Zilz; and several nephews.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, May  5, 2021 at 9:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, followed by a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf.  Interment will be held privately at the convenienc of the family.  Friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday morning 8:30-9:30 am.
