Rose Elaine Maresca, 101, of Sugarloaf, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at The Laurels Senior Living in Hazleton.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, March 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Concilia (Scotto) Bonati. She moved to Sugarloaf in 1986, where she lived for the remainder of her life, except for five years in from Marco Island, FL.
Rose was a unit receptionist for Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn for nine years and then became a loving wife and homemaker. A member of Saint John Bosco Parish, Conyngham, she had a fervent faith in God and her prayers touched many lives. An avid reader and a fantastic cook, Rose especially loved to take care of her familyand her garden.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, Louis Maresca; and sisters, Concetta Cariglia and Theresa Schiano.
Surviving are three daughters, Theresa Maresca of Lafayette, NJ; Celia Gandhi and husband Dr. Harsh Gandhi of Sugarloaf; and Elaine Jones and husband Don of Galax, VA; four grandchildren, Michelle Gandhi, Lake Mohawk, NJ; Dr. Jonathan Gandhi and wife Aly, Nashville, TN; Laura Applegate and husband Austin of West Orange, NJ; Victoria Spaziani of Charlotte, NC; three step-grandchildren, Amber, Phoenix and Kolbe Jones. Also surviving are a sister, Marie DiGiacomo, and a loving cousin, Theresa Spinelli, both of Brooklyn, NY. Rose is remembered by many great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and nephews.
Her funeral will be held with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 2:30 PM in Saint Jude Parish, 420 S. Mountain Blvd., Mt. Top, PA 18707. Friends may call at the church from 1:30 PM until the time of the Mass. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
