Ronald Harry Eckrote, 77, of Conyngham Borough, passed away May 28, 2024, at Mountain Top Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, following a lengthy battle with glioblastoma multiforme.
Born in Hazleton, November 9, 1946, he was the son of the late Harry Milton and Lenora Frances (Horn) Eckrote and spent his entire life in the Conyngham/Drums Valley.
Ronald worked in the automotive industry most of his life, at numerous dealerships, including the family owned Harlen Motor Sales Inc. He retired as a Truck Driver from Wegmans in 2012. He was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Conyngham. He was also a member of Hazle Azalea Fellowship Masonic Lodge 327, Hazleton, and a founding member of the Valley Emergency Ambulance Association. He was a Life Member of the Conyngham Fire Company and Valley Regional Fire and Rescue. One of Ronald’s most distinguished honors was being the first Eagle Scout of Boy Scout Troop 207 in Conyngham. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, baking, woodworking, stained glass and leather work. He also enjoyed taking care of his homestead and yard with his faithful K9 companion, Macie.
Surviving are his loving wife, Janice (Schugardt) Eckrote to whom he was married on January 21, 1967 in Conyngham; three children, Kymberlee Lucas, Hagerstown, MD; Kenneth Eckrote and his wife Leslie, West Chester, OH; and Kevin Eckrote, and his wife Lynn, Drums; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held with a Memorial Service on Saturday June 15, 2024, at 11 AM in Christ United Church of Christ, 470 S Main St, Conyngham, PA 18219. Friends may call at the Church from 10 AM until time of service. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Harman Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
