CSM Robert H. Campitell, US Army Retired, 93, of Sugarloaf, passed away early Friday morning at his residence.
Born in Norristown, June 9, 1927, he was the son of the late Domenic and Philomena (Alleva) Campitell.
Robert was a retired Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army and World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre of operations with over 44 years of active and reserve service. At age 65 he was recalled to active duty out of retirement to serve seven additional months in Operation Desert Storm. Among his many awards and decorations the highest was the Legion of Merit and the Legion of Honor.
Robert worked as a Sales Manager for Coopers Creek Chemical Corp. in West Conshohocken for over 42 years. He was a past member of the Boy Scouts of America, serving with Bucks County Council, Lenape District, and chairman of the membership committee for over 30 years.
He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus charter member and a member of the Layman’s Retreat League in Malvern, PA for over 50 years.
Robert was a life member of VFW post #8161, Conyngham; the Association of the U.S. Army, Tobyhanna Army Depot Chapter, the US Constabulary Forces Association, where he also served as Vice Commander; the Veterans Guard, 3rd Regiment Infantry and the Honorary First Defender 213th Support Group, Allentown.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #76, Hazleton; a former member of Fort Dix Retiree Council, the Washington Crossing Historical Commission and participated in their Christmas Pageant for over 26 years, and past vice president of the Retired Sergeant’s Major and Chief Association.
Robert was a self-taught oil painter and he enjoyed hunting, piano, jazz music, and maintaining the grounds around his home.
He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by a sister H. Marie Campitell.
Surviving are his loving wife of the past 15 years, the former Sandra Trostle; two children Eric R. Campitell; and Carol A. Brame and her husband Kenneth; and two grandchildren Patrick and Rachael Brame.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums. Burial with military honors will follow at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10:30 am until the time of the service.
