Richard A. Yesilonis, 94, of Tresckow, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton.
Born in Drifton, December 19, 1930, he was the son of the late Alphonso Yesilonis and Josephine (Muscovitch) Slavinsky and spent the past four years in Tresckow, after moving from Drums.
Richard was a 1948 graduate of Freeland High School where he was a star basketball player. He was a US Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict having served from 1948 - 1952. Richard was a Demand Meter Inspector for PPL, Hazleton for over 20 years, having retired in 1988. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Hazleton; the Knights of Columbus; Hazleton Elks Lodge #200; and the Freeland American Legion Post #473. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, BINGO, and enjoyed socializing with people.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brother, Albion, and sisters, Helen Kulig, Dorothy Turner, and Irene Hollick.
Surviving are his loving wife, the former, Elverta Dalton to whom he was married for 72 years; three children, Sharon Keck and husband Kenneth, Drums; Thomas Yesilonis and wife Julianne, Tresckow; and Ann Hoffman and husband John, Lee, ME; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Holy Rosary RC Church, 240 S. Poplar St., Hazleton, PA 18201. Interment will follow at Sky-View Memorial Park, Tamaqua. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 9 AM until the time of the Mass. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Dr., Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
