Richard L Horne, 73, of Sugarloaf, passed away late Tuesday evening, August 23, 2022 at Dar-Way Healthcare and Rehablilitation Center, Forksville, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born in Espy, PA, February 26, 1949, he was the son of the late Lee and Hazel (Lehman) Horne and spent the past 22 years in Sugarloaf, after moving from Berwick. He had also previously lived in Mifflinville.
Richard worked as a Construction Worker for Robert C. Young Asphalt, Mifflinville for over 40 years. He was 1967 graduate of Central Columbia High School. He then served his country with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He served in Vietnam from 1969 - 1970, where he received a Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, four Air Medals, and the Vietnam Service medal with four bronze stars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding motorcycles. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Kruk, to whom he was married on March 21, 2006; a son Timothy Horne, Phoenixville; a step-son Christopher Hine, Sugarloaf; two sisters Patricia Beatini and her husband Anthony, Rutherford, NJ; and Betty Walko, Shavertown; a brother Douglas Horne and his wife Vicki, Bloomsburg; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and his rescue dog Ruger.
His funeral will be held Monday at 11 am with a Memorial Service at Harman Funeral Homes Crematory, inc. (West) 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday morning from 10 am until the time of the service. Relatives and friends are encouraged to wear camo to the services.
