Miriam began her working career at the Pentagon, moving to Washington D.C. with her sister Rose Marie. They had a gift for singing, would sing anywhere there was an audience and were charter members of The Pentagon Playhouse. Miriam spent her early married life at home devoted to her children. She later worked for the Keystone Job Corps Center for many years before being introduced to missionary work by her cousin, Msgr. John Esseff. She led Mission Trips for the Diocese of Scranton for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 85. While working for the Diocese, she attended King's College and at the age of 59 received her Bachelor's Degree from Kings College.
Miriam was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Church in Drums, and her Catholic faith was the guiding force in her life. She revered Mother Teresa and became a member of the Lay Missionaries of Charity, sharing in her mission of serving and caring for the poor. Miriam's mission trips took her to over twenty countries like Haiti, Tanzania, Ecuador, Thailand, and many destinations in the US as well. She loved helping students connect with the local people in need and finding ways to show them God's love.
Some of the things Miriam enjoyed most were trips to visit her children and their families, making Lebanese food, Christmas traditions, trips to Cape May, NJ, her sunroom, and most recently in her retirement, the writing of a book about her life titled "I Was Picked Up By An Elephant... and Other Mission Stories".
