Born in Tresckow on September 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Anna (Gera) Baka.  She grew up in McAdoo and was a 1950 graduate of McAdoo High School.  After her marriage, she resided in Hazleton until moving to Providence Place 11 years ago.

Mary was a secretary for the ILGWU and later became secretary and assistant manager for the Center City Apartments in Hazleton.  She was a member of Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton.  She enjoyed playing Pinochle and was a member of the Pinochle Club at Providence Place.  She also enjoyed all activities and painting classes and developed many friendships while she was a resident there.  A devout Catholic, her daily routine included her prayers and recitation of the rosary.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband George C. Ator, who passed away May 1, 2009.  They shared 53 wonderful years of marriage together.

Surviving are two sons George G. Ator, Hazleton; and Franklin A. Ator and his wife Mary Ann, Sugarloaf; and three grandchildren, Alexandria, Gabrielle, and Franklin Ator II.  Also surviving is a maternal aunt, Margaret (Gera) Danison along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She took great pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and shared beautiful memories with them. She made many friends along her life’s journey.  She had a kind and beautiful smile, enjoyed a good joke, book or movie, and carried a sharp mind and wit.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at a date, time, and location to be announced.
