Marie (McNertney) Buchman

Marie Buchman, 80, of Drums, passed away Monday evening, January 27, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton following a brief illness.

Born in Hazleton, March 19, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Marie (Beilman) McNertney and spent the past 19 years in Drums, after moving from Trevorton.

Marie was a graduate of Hazleton High School class of 1962, then in 1966 she graduated from Misericordia University, Dallas; and in 1969 she graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. receiving her master's degree in political science. Marie was a teacher for Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School, Shamokin from 1989 until her retirement in 2005.  She was a member of Good Shepherd RC Church, Drums where she was also a member of the Women of Good Shepherd.  Marie loved being outdoors, walking, and reading, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, Helms F. Buchman who passed away May 21, 2022; and a brother, Richard McNertney.

Surviving are two children, Anthony Buchman and his wife Andria, Allentown; and Connie Segedy and her husband Keith, Drums; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Ava Buchman and Ainsley and Lachlan Segedy; a brother, Edward McNertney and his wife Marilyn, Fort Worth, TX; a sister, Louise Berard and her husband Anthony, Conyngham; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11 AM in Good Shepherd RC Church, 87 S. Hunter Hwy, Drums, PA 18222.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of the Mass.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Dr., Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
