Margaret A. Makara, 95, of Weston, passed away Monday evening, February 3, 2025 at The Manor at St. Luke Village in Hazleton, following a brief illness.
Born in Oneida, May 5, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna (Kakalecik) Krutz and spent the past 76 years in Weston, after moving from Oneida.
Margaret was a graduate of Sheppton High School. She was employed as a machine operator for many local garment factories. Margaret was a member of Sacred Heart RC Church Weston, the church's Altar and Rosary Society, and a retired member of the choir. She was also a member of the ILGWU and volunteered at the Red Cross and was a frequent blood donor. She enjoyed spending her time outside in her yard gardening and doing word finds. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband John J. Makara, Sr., a son, John J. Makara, Jr., sisters, Agnes, Helen, Ann, Laurel, and Jean, and brothers, John, Stephen, Nicholas, Joseph, Edward, and Samuel.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Pasdon and husband Jan; Sugarloaf; and Lorraine Knelly and husband Thomas, Weston; Goddaughter, Theresa Sency and husband James, Weston; daughter-in-law, Betty Makara, Ringtown; two granddaughters, Amy Bolinsky and husband Marc, Bloomsburg; and Christine Ratkiewicz and husband Frank, Ringtown; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Bolinsky and companion Colton, Bloomsburg; Kaylee Bolinsky, Bloomsburg; and Garrett Ratkiewicz, Ringtown; two sisters, Marie Terpak, Mayfield; and Catherine Fellin, NJ; a brother, Frederick Krutz, Hazleton; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Makara, Greenville, SC; and Enes Palushock, Weston; and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, Weston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 PM- 8 PM.
