Margaret Mary Kitlan, 94, of Evans, Georgia, passed away early Thursday morning, July 27, 2023, at Thomson Health and Rehabilitation in Thomson Georgia.
Born in Eckley, May 29, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances (Zahay) Soltis and had spent the past six years in Evans, Georgia after moving from Drums, Pennsylvania.
Margaret was a machine operator for many local garment factories. She was a doting wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Freeland.
Marge had a love of animals, especially birds. She also had a unique ability to train small, friendly critters. They would often visit the kitchen step waiting to be fed; peanuts for the chipmunks and popcorn for the skunks. Marge also had a love of sewing and tailoring often making clothing and home decor. She frequently made clothes for her family and taught them sewing techniques. Her artistic skills were also expressed through oil paintings of flowers, birds, and nature scapes. Her painting did not stop on canvas, but could have been seen through stenciling throughout her home in Drums.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband Emil Kitlan; a son, Emil John Kitlan; sisters, Emma Keilman and Grace Soltis; and a brother, Robert Soltis.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy D'Amico, Wilmington, DE; two granddaughters, Tayler Norwood and her husband Brock; and Kelsey McNight and her husband Andrew; all of Evans, GA; three great-grandchildren, Lillian and Xander Norwood and Carson McNight; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 9:15 AM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive Drums, followed by an Office of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 451 Fern Street, Freeland. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery Freeland.
