Margaret Fuscsick Obituary

Margaret Fuscsick, 99, a resident of Hazleton, passed away Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2023, at Fritzingertown Senior Living Community in Drums.  A resident of Hazleton, she was born in Harleigh, on August 21, 1923, and was a graduate of Hazle Township High School Class of 1941.  She was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Zipovsky) Yurek.  She was the widow of Michael Fuscsick who passed away in 1967 and shared much of her life with Michael Preputnick who passed away in 1992.

Margaret lived a life of generosity and service.  Generous with her time, talents, and treasures, she served her community through her church and her work.  She was an active member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church and was a business agent for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union until her retirement.  She experienced a life with many beautiful moments and hardships and through it all carried a positive outlook and tireless work-ethic.

Her life was a testament to action.  Margaret loved to create; especially handmade goods and delicious food and baked goods which she readily shared to the delight of many.  Particularly treasured were her handmade quilts and homemade pierogies and paska bread. An avid traveler, she visited over a dozen countries in her lifetime.  Her life was one of purpose and, in perhaps the greatest measure, a person who made others' lives better.  She was an example to us all and will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.  Her actions of kindness will be forever appreciated and hopefully forever emulated.

Surviving Margaret are her two children: Michael Fuscsick (Lynn), of Lemoyne, PA and Julie Matteo of Hazleton, PA; four grandsons: Tony Matteo (Cristie) of Cranberry Twp., PA, Jim Matteo (Kristin) of Skillman, NJ, Jack Matteo (Lee Ann) of Drums, PA, and Dr. Adam Fuscsick (Tess) of FL as well as seven great-grandchildren, Avery, Caroline, Kyra, Cassidy, Connor, Madison, and Brayden.  She is also survived by two siblings: Francis Yurek (Elaine) of Manakin Sabot, VA, and Theodore Yurek (M.F.) of Hazleton in addition to many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Magdalene Yurek and Eleanor Yuhas.

Her funeral will be held Monday, February 13, 2023, with Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at 10 AM from St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church, 5 East 20th St., Hazleton.  Burial will follow in Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Drums. Friends may call at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Dr., Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
