Lori Ann (Phillips) Smith

Lori Ann Smith, 61, of Sugarloaf, passed away early Friday morning, April 4, 2025, at her residence following a three-month illness.

Born and raised in Scranton, June 14, 1963, she was the daughter of the late David W. and Dolores Jane (Freeman) Phillips, Sr., and spent the past five years in Sugarloaf, after moving from Pittston.

In her younger years Lori Ann was employed as a sewing machine operator.  During the late 80's and early 90's she was a bartender at several establishments including the Third Rail, Scranton and the Skyliner, Pittston.  She also worked for DuPont Motor Lines, Old Forge and East Coast Logistics, Pittston.  Most recently, she was the owner of Pure Country Freight, Pittston with her late husband Rod, where she was a vital part of the day-to-day operations, alongside her son Trevor who is a mechanic.  In her spare time, she loved to cook, bake, make crafts, sew and patch clothing and when her son was younger, she was involved in his boy scout troop.  Lori Ann was a flower child at heart, and she most valued spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, Rodney Alan Smith, who passed away November 30, 2019; and two siblings, Alan Sr. and Christina Burke.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph Powel, Pittston; and Trevor Smith, Sugarloaf; three grandchildren; six siblings, Shirley Phillips, Taylor; David W. Phillips Jr., Scranton; Kathy Cortazar, Olyphant; Barry Phillips and wife, Sue, Chesapeake Beach, MD; Mark G. Phillips, Avoca; and Linda Kokinda and husband, Robert, Throop; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Visitation for Lori Ann and her husband Rodney will be held Friday, April 11, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums.  Military honors will be accorded for Rodney at 8 PM.  Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
