Linda M. (Shelhamer) Schell Lamont, 82, of Laflin, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, January 1, 2026, at her residence.
Born in Drums, February 17, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. "Shelly" and Marion L. (Jones) Shelhamer owner of Shelhamer's Garage in Drums. She resided in Laflin, PA with her son, Damian and family after moving from Millerstown, PA and had previously spent most of her life in Drums.
Linda graduated from Hazleton Sr. High School's business program in 1960 and proceeded to continue her career by also graduating from both McCann's School of Business and Luzerne County Community College with an associate's degree in business. She was employed as a bookkeeper at several companies throughout her life with DA Kessler Construction in Mt. Carmel; Hazleton Chamber of Commerce; White Haven Center and for DEP in Wilkes-Barre until her retirement. She also owned several businesses including Lamont's Country Store in Drums. Linda was a member of Saint Paul's United Methodist Church in Drums where she participated in their "Old Timers Night" sharing and gathering knowledge of local history.
In her earlier years, Linda was a member and senior troop leader of the Girl Scouts and a member of the Masonic Rainbow Girls. After her son was old enough, she became a den mother and active in his Boy Scout troop. She was an avid history buff and researcher, always working on genealogy for the yearly family reunions. She was continuously on a quest for knowledge, either on the computer doing research or had her nose in a book. Linda loved all animals, from her first horse Corporal when she was young to her dogs and cats all through life.
Linda was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Bernard T. Lamont, Jr. who passed away March 20, 2024; a brother, Dale C. Shelhamer; and cousins, Robbie Shelhamer, and Jean Shelhamer.
Surviving are her son, Damian C. Schell and his wife Jackie DePasquale, Kingston; two grandchildren, Samuel E. DePasquale, Laflin; and Taryn A. DePasquale, Naples, FL; four great-grandchildren; a stepson, Bernie D. Lamont and grandson, Lucas Lamont; a sister, Donna J. Cassarella and her husband James, Drums; sister-in-law, Kathleen M. Shelhamer, Las Vegas, NV; a nephew, Zak Shellhammer, Reno, NV; cousins, Theron R. Shelhamer, Drums; and Diane Breznak also of Drums; and Ruth Ellen Fisher and her husband Norrie, Hudson, FL; and her former husband, Gary L. Schell, Mt. Grove.
A Memorial Service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 12 PM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Dr, Drums. Interment will take place privately later in the spring at Drums Community Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service.
