Joseph Callavini, 84, formerly of Hazleton, passed away Wednesday July 10, 2024 in UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC following a lengthy illness.
Born in Hazleton July 31,1939, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Palko) Callavini Sr. and spent most of his life in Hazleton prior to moving with his son to North Carolina.
Joe was the owner operator of J. Callavini Trucking and Leasing, Hazleton. He then operated D.B. Towing, Hazleton. He was the operator and promoter of Mountain Speedway, Sundance Vacation Speedway in St. Johns, PA from 1999-2013. He was an avid race fan and enjoyed running his track along with traveling with his son to races in Florida, New York, and New Jersey.
Joe was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his loving wife Dorothy Faust who passed in February 2023.
Surviving are a son Barry Callavini and his wife Heather, Asheboro, NC; a daughter Denise Lynn Lesko and her husband John, Sussex, VA; three grandchildren Nikolas Callavini, Jessie Stiebler, and Jade Lynn LoBello; one great grandchild Everdine LoBello; and a sister Theresa Evans, Hazleton.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a memorial visitation Friday, August 9, 2024 from 6-8 PM at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. A Short remembrance service will take place at 8 PM. Internment will take place privately.
