John Ortiz

 John Ortiz, 89, of Drums, passed away Saturday evening, February 26, 2022 at Providence Place Retirement Community in Drums, following a brief illness.

Born in New York, NY, February 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Juan and Beatrice (Simone) Ortiz and spent the past 25 years in Drums, after moving from Philadelphia.

John was a Technician for Philadelphia Gas Works, having retired in 1993 after over 30 years of service. He was a member of many Beech Mountain Lakes Committees, and was an avid racquetball player until he was 86.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother Frank Simone.

Surviving are his loving wife, the former Antoinette Berrios to whom he was married on September 3, 1960; four children, Joann Perez and husband Joseph, Glendora, CA; Anthony Ortiz and wife Ann, Sewell, NJ; John Ortiz and wife Cindy Getz-Ortiz, Sugarloaf; and Thomas Ortiz and wife Diane, Yardley; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held with a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 12 PM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11 AM until the time of the service.
