John J. Hicks, 90, of Drums, passed away late Monday evening, September 13, 2021, at Mountain Top Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mountain Top, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Rahway, NJ, September 12, 1931, he was the son of the late Isaac and Florence (Perry) Hicks and spent the past 33 years in Drums, after moving from New Kensington.
John was a 1959 graduate of University of Alabama. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer for Alcoa Aluminum, New Kensington. He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War from 1949 - 1953. He was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, Sugarloaf. He was active on various Beech Mountain Lake committees. John liked spending time outdoors and gardening. In his younger years he enjoyed swimming and canoeing. He was an avid reader who loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother Henry Hicks and a sister Marion Roberts.
Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, the former Ellen B. Donovan to whom he was married on August 13, 1955; four children, Daniel J. Hicks and his wife Sam, Montrose, CO; Patricia Snider and her husband Gregory, Brasher Falls, NY; James Hicks and his wife Anna Marie, Greensburg; and Robert Hicks and his wife Debra, York; seven grandchildren, Andrew Snider and his wife Jess; Amy Snider and husband Craig; Greg Snider and his wife Connie; Jessie Hicks; Jaimi Barret and husband Hunter; Jared Hicks; and Logan Hicks; three great-grandchildren, Tinsley Janney, Douglas and Iris Snider; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Monday, September 20, 2021 at 9:30 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 PA-93, Sugarloaf. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday evening, September 19, 2021, from 6 to 8 PM.
