Harvey William "Bill" Steinman, Jr., 85, of Drums, passed away late Tuesday evening, August 19, 2025, at Mountain Top Health Care Center. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Born in Hazleton on February 23, 1940, he was the son of the late Harvey William, Sr. and Dorothy (Fritzinger) Steinman. Bill lived in Drums all his life and is survived by his three brothers Harry E., Roy A., and Gary L.
Harvey was a Foreman and Printing Pressman for 46 years at the Hazleton Standard Speaker and an active member of the International Printing and Graphic Communications Union until his retirement. A U.S. Army Reserves veteran, he served his country from 1965 to 1968 and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Known to his family and friends as Bill, he had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed gardening, painting, and reading and also took pleasure in crossword puzzles. Bill loved taking care of his family, his dogs, and his home, and he was especially delighted by the recent arrival of his great-grandchild, Julian William.
Harvey was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his loving wife of 42 years, the former Joyce Avillion, who passed away July 26, 2008.
He is survived by his two sons, Christopher P. Steinman and his wife Cynthia, of Denver, PA, and Alan R. Steinman of Drums; two grandchildren, Christopher Seth Steinman and his wife Alyson, of Pittsburgh, and Sylvia L. Steinman and her partner Kevin Campbell, Jr., of East Petersburg; and his great-grandson, Julian William Steinman.
Friends may visit at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 772 St. Johns Rd., Saint Johns, PA, on Tuesday, August 26, beginning at 9:00 AM. A Memorial Service will follow at 10:00 AM, with interment immediately afterward in St. John's Cemetery. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W.
