George F. Welch

George F. Welch, 77, of Sugarloaf, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at his residence.

Born in Hazleton, May 22, 1947, he was the son of the late Arthur Rolland and Margaret (Cheslock) Welch and had spent all of his life in Sugarloaf.

George was a 1965 graduate of West Hazleton High School and the Agricultural Program where he was treasurer for The Future Farmers of America.  He was a custom home builder for many years and owned Welch Construction, Sugarloaf, until he retired. Throughout his career, George was a board member of the Building Industry Association of NEPA where he was key to organizing their annual outings and home shows.  He enjoyed being a part of Welch Racing (Motocross Team) with his son in the 1990's. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Conyngham. George was well known for his cooking skills at the Nuremberg Players dinner shows. He loved to grow, cook, and make things, especially his homemade sauerkraut and wine, and participating in gatherings with his family. After retirement he could often be found lending a hand at Burger's Farm Market.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his son Jeremy Welch who passed in 2006, and sisters, Shirley Welch, and Sondra Lindeman.

Surviving are five daughters, Lisa Knecht and husband Scott, Nuremberg; Christie Welch Daubert and husband Carl, Drums; Julie MacDonald and husband Jim, National Park, NJ;  Jennifer Welch, Hazle Twp; and Amanda Ackerman and her husband Bob, Sugarloaf; six grandchildren, Samuel Brummitt, Erik Welch, Maggie Arthur and husband Bill, Brandon Welch, and Jeremy and Joshua Ackerman, two brothers, Arthur Welch and John Welch; three sisters, Betsy Fisher, Susan Oliver, and Nancy Marini; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

His funeral will be held with a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11 AM in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 467 Main St., Conyngham. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9-11 AM.
