George Thomas Rusnock

George Thomas Rusnock, 85, formerly of Hazleton, passed away Wednesday morning March 23, 2022 at the residence of his daughter in Hazle Township.

Born in Fern Glen, April 9, 1936, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Ambruch) Rusnock and spent the past four months in Hazle Township, after moving from Hazleton, where he had spent most of his life.

George was a 1954 graduate of Black Creek Township High School, and was a US Army veteran, having served from 1955 - 1957.  He had worked as a Press Operator for Forbo Industries, Humboldt Industrial Park, and more recently in the Sporting Goods Department for Wal-Mart, Hazleton.  He was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church, Hazleton.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the Casino and playing the ponies at Pocono Downs with his Grandson. 

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, the former Joann Cusat, who passed away September 17, 2015; a brother John Rusnock, Jr; and a sister Violet Mascellino.

Surviving are his daughter Janine Surmick, Hazle Township; a grandson Brett Surmick, Watertown, NJ; a granddaughter Lorrin Surmick, a student at Temple University; two sisters-in-law Molly Puhak, Milnesville; and Josephine Boyer, Winter Garden, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Church. 750 N. Vine Street, Hazleton.  Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  Friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 9 am until the time of the Mass.
