George J. Greech Jr., 77, of Sugarloaf, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 27, 2020 at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest, Allentown, following a sudden illness.
Born in Hazle Township, December 3, 1942, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Evancho) Greech, Sr. Prior ot residing in Sugarloaf, he had lived in Hazleton.
George worked as an Electrical Engineer for several local manufacturers including Dorr-Oliver and Genova. He was a US Navy veteran. He was a member of St. John Bosco RC Church, where he served as a CCD teacher, Eucharistic Minister, and lector. He was an avid sports fan, especially of Penn State Football and Philadelphia Phillies baseball, and coached various youth sports during his life. He was very proud of his Slovak heritage and enjoyed researching genealogy. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved animals and had pet dogs throughout his life.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, the former Maryanne Healey, who passed away March 11, 2013
Surviving are two daugthers Erin Zehner her husband Ryan, and their children Cooper and Rhett, Blythewood, SC; and Molly Greech, Sugarloaf; two brothers Joseph Greech and his wife Barbara, West Hazleton; and Gary Greech and his wife Mary, Hazleton; and many nieces and nephews including James and Matthew Greech.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:30 am with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family.
