Genevieve Mumie, 95, of Hazleton, passed away early Sunday morning, July 2, 2023, at Forest Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Weatherly, following a brief illness.
Born in Nuremberg, August 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Anselmo and Genoeffa (DeManicor) Formolo and spent the past 20 years in Hazleton, after moving from Oneida.
Genevieve was a sewing machine operator for many local garment factories. She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Weston; the ILGWU and the Laurel Mall Walkers. She loved to sing and was a member of the church choir, and enjoyed attending Alumni dances, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, Robert Mumie who passed away in 1972; brothers, Lendo, Secundo, Albert, and Rudolph Formolo, and sisters, Mary Bradley, Lydia Plath, Rita Volosin and Priscilla Ryba.
Surviving are four children, Roxanne Christian, Whitehaven; Denise Morkavage, Hazleton; Kevin Mumie and his wife Michelle, Weatherly; and Sherri Mandart, McAdoo; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother Neal Formolo, Tampa, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at 10 AM in Sacred Heart RC Church, 554 Main Street, Weston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 9 AM until the time of the Mass.
