Foster Doan Obituary

Foster Q. Doan, 93, of Drums, passed away Saturday evening, May 11, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes Barre, following a sudden cardiac arrest.

Born in Danville, June 23, 1930, he was the son of the late Roland and Kipp (Foster) Doan and spent the past 24 years in Drums, after moving from Chester County.

Foster grew up in Berwick, graduated from Berwick High School in 1948, from Lafayette College in 1952, and Princeton Theological Seminary in 1955.  In his
teaching career, Foster taught at Blair Academy, Blairstown, NJ; Westtown School, Westtown, PA; and Friends Select School, Philadelphia. A strong supporter of Quaker education, he also worked for the Education Committee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. In 2000 he retired to Drums, PA where he served on the Board of Trustees at Greenwood Friends School outside of Millville, for several years. He was a Member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker), most recently at Millville Friends Meeting. Foster was an avid gardener who always had a plant and vegetable patch wherever he lived. He enjoyed listening to classical music, conversing with friends, and, most of all, being with family and several beloved dogs.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brother, Roland Doan, Jr.

Surviving are his loving wife, the former Elizabeth Leisenring to whom he was married on August 9, 1952; three children, Alexander Doan and wife Cecelia Traugh, Yonkers, NY; Petra Doan and wife Elizabeth Kamphausen-Doan, Phippsburg, ME; and John Doan and wife Elizabeth Doan, Drums; four grandchildren, Jessamyn Doan and husband Steve Ewing, Atlanta, GA; Daniel Doan and wife Tatum, Drums; Hannah Doan, Newport, VT; and Jacob Doan, Salt Lake City, UT; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lee, Miles, and Eli; a sister, Mary Lee, Cromwell, CT; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held privately at the convenience of his family.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
