Ethel Ganc Obituary

Ethel C. Ganc passed away Monday morning, February 8, 2021 at Kadima Rehabilitation and Nursing at Luzerne in Drums at the age of 99.  She was just three days shy of her 100th birthday.

Born in Hazleton, February 11, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Bittler) Boyle.  She spent the past 66 years in Drums after moving from West Hazleton.  Ethel was a homemaker most of her life and operated the family farm with her husband, Stanley.  She enjoyed tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, completing very difficult puzzles, indulging her sweet tooth with a nice cup of tea, and of course her favorite pastime was spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was always more than happy to share her tips of how to bake the perfect chocolate chip cookies, dipping a pretzel just the right way to make sure it was completely coated in melted chocolate, caring so lovingly for her cats, and giving her great-grandchildren fast rides in a wheelchair.  Ethel enjoyed being outdoors and she enjoyed every season in Pennsylvania for nearly 100 years.

Surviving are her daughters Diane Sheeman and husband Frank, Texas; Jane Wood, Drums, PA; grandchildren Jason Wood and wife Michelle, Mountain Top, PA; Derek Sheeman, Texas; and Kelly Hartman and husband Byron, Turkey; four great-grandchildren Alexander, Isabelle, Declan, and Henry; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who love her like family.

She was preceded in death, by her husband Stanley, her parents Charles and Elizabeth, sister Marion Nesbitt, brothers William and Howard Boyle, and granddaughter Brina (Sheeman) Shackelford.

Her funeral will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11:00 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran and UCC Cemetery, St. Johns Rd., Drums, PA.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 -11:00am.
