Elmer W. Strong Sr., 86, of Conyngham, passed away from natural causes Saturday, March 12, 2022.
Born in Scranton, November 11, 1935, he was the son of the late Monta and Dorothy (Segear) Strong.
Elmer was a long-time employee of PPL, where he became the Hazleton Area Foreman in 1975, and retired in 1991 at age 56. He enjoyed spending time with his family and took an active role in his grandchildren's lives offering support and transportation for their numerous extracurricular activities. He was a life-long Cleveland Browns fan. He loved nature, helping his neighbors, hunting and fishing with his son and grandchildren, gardening, keeping his lawn well manicured, watching and identifying the birds he fed in his backyard.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a son Elmer Strong, Jr., who passed away December 26, 1992; and a sister Mary Jane Kresge.
Surviving are his loving and much beloved wife of the past 66 years, the former Loretta Horne; his son Kirk Strong and his wife Donna, Drums; a grandson Maj. Wesley Strong, his wife Lori and their sons Kyle and Tyler, Spring Branch, TX; a granddaughter Trista Swartz, LPN, and her daughter Brayden, Drums; a brother Monta Strong and his companion Judy Schoch, Texas; a sister Shirley Lutz, Canadensis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
All services will be held privately at the convenincne of the family. Memorial donations can be made to the Sugarloaf Ambulance Association, PO Box 80, Sybertsville, PA 18251.
