Ellen B. Hicks, 94, of Drums, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 7, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes Barre, following a brief illness.
Born in Bronx, NY, November 25, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Marcella (Wallace) Donovan and spent the past 36 years in Drums, after moving from Lower Burrell, PA.
Ellen was a homemaker for many years but had previously worked in Manhattan at Macy's, Bloomingdales, the Empire State Building and the Red Cross. She loved her time growing up in Bronx, NY. She was a member of St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, Sugarloaf and was a previous member of St. Margaret Mary, Lower Burrell, PA. She was very active in her past parish and enjoyed spending her time with family and gardening. Ellen and her husband, John retired to Beech Mt. Lakes and were active residents there serving on committees to better their community. She was also fond of playing bingo and taking trips to the casino.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband John J. Hicks, who passed away September 13, 2021; and two sisters, Kathleen Zulch, and Ann McBride, and two brothers who died as infants.
Surviving are four children, Daniel Hicks and his wife Sam, Montrose, CO; Patricia Snider and her husband Gregory, Brasher Falls, NY; James Hicks and his wife Anna Marie Palatella, Greensburg; and Robert Hicks and his wife Debra, York; seven grandchildren, Andrew Snider and his wife Jess; Amy Snider and husband Craig; Greg Snider and his wife Connie; Jessi Hicks; Jaimi Barret and husband Hunter; Jared Hicks; and Logan Hicks; four great-grandchildren, Tinsley Janney, Douglas Snider, Iris Snider, and Landon Barret.
Her funeral will be held with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10 AM in Saint John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, 573 PA Route 93, Sugarloaf. There will be no public visitation. Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital.
