Elizabeth Gombeda Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Gombeda, 82, of Conyngham, passed away Monday morning, October 23, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Wilkes Barre, December 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Baran) Shershen and spent the past 12 years in Conyngham.

Elizabeth was a 1959 graduate of Hazleton High School. She attended beauty school and became a cosmetologist. She taught at Empire Beauty School and had previously owned Hair Loft East beauty salon. She also enjoyed her time as a bus aide for special needs children. She had attended Saint Joseph's Church, Hazleton. Elizabeth loved arts and crafts, baking, cake decorating and had won a Wilton Cake Decorating Contest. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, canasta, and Pogo computer games. She was a big fan of BINGO and looked forward to monthly family game nights.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her brother, Eugene Matchick, and sisters, Marilyn Sandra Bevans and Georgetta Hood.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband, Lawrence F. Gombeda to whom she was married on June 6, 1964 in Hazleton; two children, Sharon Sediva and husband Mark, North Wales; and Lawrence D. "Larry" Gombeda, Conyngham; two grandchildren, Alicia Luchi and fiancé Tyler Kowalczyk, Tresckow; and Ethan Gombeda, Conyngham, a great-granddaughter, Sophie Larock, Tresckow; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and her dog Riley.

Her funeral will be held with a Celebration of Life to be held privately at the convenience of her family. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, assisted the family with the arrangements.
