Donald M. Zufall

Donald M. Zufall, 79, of Sugarloaf, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 7, 2024, at his residence in Sugarloaf, following a lengthy illness. 

Born in Punxsutawney, December 24, 1944, he was the son of the late Martin DeVere and Almah Mae (Beatty) Zufall and spent the past 50 plus years in Sugarloaf, after moving from Punxsutawney. 

Don was a supervisor for the White Haven Center for 35 plus years. He was a member of Black Creek United Methodist Church, Sugarloaf. He was also a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, the North American Hunting Club, and the NRA. 
 
If there is one word to describe Don, it would be "steady."  Don was a steady, dependable presence to all who knew him. A port in the storm, a strong and comforting companion- a good man- he was rarely shaken. 

Even when a sunny summer day trip to New York ended in a dented left side of his brand-new Dodge Durango, he remained positive and grateful to have escaped the incident with no injuries. That was his way. 

A steady and unwavering servant of God, Don faithfully served Black Creek Church, volunteering when needed to serve his church and his community. He was always willing to help where he was needed. 

Full of information, with an eye for detail, a memory for all important events and details- a teller of great stories- and a love of decadent sweets and big steel roller coasters, Don was someone to be counted on, for everything. 

Don found his greatest joy in life alongside his wife Sharon. Her protector and travel partner, they shared over fifty years of life, love, and adventure together. Attending Penn State football games, camping across the country, crossing the oceans to destinations like Germany and Hawaii, even venturing to Alaska, they created memories to last a lifetime with each other, but more importantly, with all those around them. Don and Sharon created adventures for the friends and family (and the friends who became family) they so often entertained. A visit to the Zufall residence meant guests would be treated to an experience carefully curated to their interests. 
Don and Sharon shared a love so big, so selfless, and so steady, it overflowed to embrace all those around them.  

Surviving are his loving wife, the former Sharon Rhoades to whom he was married on September 9, 1967; a brother, Franklin D. Zufall and his wife Carol, Highland, IN; and many nieces and nephews. 

His funeral will be held with a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11 AM in Black Creek UM Church, 158 Golf Course Rd, Sugarloaf, PA 18249.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, assisted the family with the arrangements.
