Donald L. Schmidt

Donald L. Schmidt, 78, of Sheppton, passed away early Sunday morning, July 2, 2023, at his residence following a brief illness. 

Born in Hazleton, September 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Howard and Ruth (Swinesburg) Schmidt and spent most of his life in Sheppton, after moving from Mountain Grove, where he spent his younger years. 

Donald was the owner and operator of Don's Auto Wholesale, Sheppton. He enjoyed spending his time working on cars, racing modifieds at local tracks, bass fishing, and watching all types of sports, especially the Dodgers and Phillies.  

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his brothers and sisters, Howard Schmidt, Ruth Jordan, Robert Schmidt, June Neyhard, Betty Smethers, Russell Schmidt, Nancy Zehner, and William Schmidt. 

Surviving are five children, Penny Forgotch, Shenandoah Heights; Donald Schmidt, Jr., Georgetown, DE; Derek Schmidt and his wife Nichole, Drums; Audra Schmidt, Sheppton; and Michael Schmidt, Sheppton; his former wife, Edwina Matuszkiewicz, Sheppton; two grandchildren, Ryan and Randy, step-granddaughter Brittany, several nieces and nephews; grand dogs, Layla, Danzig, Chino and his special companion, his Newfoundland and Australian Cattle Dog, Smokey.

All services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.  Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen is assisting the family with the arrangements.
