Dale D. Smith, 68, of Freeland, formerly of Sugarloaf, passed away Friday afternoon, July 30, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, following a two-year illness.
Born in Hazleton, July 26, 1953, he was the son of the late L. Thomas and Dorothy (Knelly) Smith.
Dale was a 1971 graduate of West Hazleton High School, and a 1975 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering, and was a loyal Penn State Fan. He loved most sports and was a fan of the LA Dodgers, 76ers, and KC Chiefs. He followed auto racing and cheered for the Andrettis and Bill and Chase Elliot. He enjoyed attending the Formula One races when they were held at Watkins Glen.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his companion Erin Gualtier.
Surviving are his daughters Jessica and Laura, of whom he was most proud; his brother Barry and his wife Kathy; and a nephew Brent. His family would like to offer special thanks to all the staff at Providence Place for the compassion shown him in the short time he was there, and also Maylath Home Health Care for all of their care.
His funeral will be held with a Memorial Service, Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11 am from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10 am until the time of the service. Interment will take place privately in Conyngham Union Cemetery.
