Dale R. Shuman, 72, of Sugarloaf, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 18, 2023, surrounded by friends and family at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest in Allentown, following a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Born in Hazleton, April 16, 1950, he was the son of the late John W. and Beulah (Hayes) Shuman and had spent most of his life in Sugarloaf after spending his childhood in Sybertsville.
Dale graduated from West Hazleton High School Class of 1968 and he earned his Associates degree in Business at IMI, Reading.He was Vice President, Owner and Partner of Green Valley Landscaping, Plains; having retired in 2021 after 35 years with the company. He was a US Army veteran during the Vietnam Conflict having served from 1971 - 1972 and then transferred to the US Army Reserves. Dale was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Conyngham. He was also a member of the Hazle Azalea Fellowship Masonic Lodge #327, Hazleton. Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his friends and family and rabbit hunting with his beagle Todd. He was an avid outdoorsman who took pride in his yard work and splitting wood for his homestead. Dale and his wife would ride around the farm on the side by side in the evenings to see the deer and other wildlife. He absolutely loved spending time with his wife, family and many friends.
Surviving are his loving wife, the former Rebecca C. Welsh to whom he was married on December 18, 1987 in Conyngham; three children, Justin Ackerman and wife Tracy, Sugarloaf; Melodee Shuman and her companion Gino Schifano, Stroudsburg; and Michelle Shuman and her fiancé Benjamin Broskoskie, Drums; two grandsons, Brantley and Garrett Ackerman; a sister Sharon Paden, Nescopeck; a brother Donald Shuman and wife Linda, Mohrsville; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 11 AM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Burial will follow in Conyngham Union Cemetery, Conyngham. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening, January 23, 2023, from 5 PM- 8 PM and on Tuesday morning from 10 AM until the time of the funeral.
