Cletus S. Spaide, 75, of Drums, who passed away, early Wednesday morning, July 19, 2023, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, following a seven-year illness.
Born in White Haven, November 28, 1947, he was the son of the late Cletus W. and Jessie (Domanski) Spaide and had spent most of his adult life in Drums.
Cletus was a Road Construction Foreman for American Asphalt, Shavertown; and Pennsy Supply Inc./Slusser Brothers, Hazleton. He was a US Navy veteran during the Vietnam Conflict having served from 1965 to 1968. He was a member of the American Legion Post #795, Drums. Cletus loved racecars, having raced for several decades at tracks including Evergreen Raceway in Drums and at Shangri-La Raceway in Owego, NY. He was an avid outdoorsman, and was especially fond of deer hunting, and salmon fishing on Lake Ontario.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his first wife, the former Dorothy "Dottie" J. Knorr, who passed away September 9, 2003; and a nephew Michael Pozza.
Surviving are his loving wife, Lisa (Silver) Van Houten, Sugarloaf; a sister, Rita Pozza, Mahanoy City; three nieces, Christine Getz and her husband Louis, Mahanoy City; Denise Smith and her husband Todd, Drums; and Beth Smith and her husband Christopher, Drums; three great-nieces, Brittany Winder, Miriah and Bellah Getz; two great-great-nephews, Caden and Brady Winder; three step-daughters, Danielle Bernstein and her husband Rick, Sugarloaf; Lauren Bechtel, State College; and Diana Van Houten and her husband Sean Orner, Devon; and four step-grandchildren, Victoria Rose and Grace Florence Bernstein and Ava Rose and Erik Jon Bechtel.
His funeral will be held Monday, July 24, 2023, at 10 AM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. Burial will follow in Calvary RC Cemetery, Drums. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 5 PM- 8 PM.
