Charles R. Fendrick Sr., 77, of Drifton, PA passed away Sunday evening, June2, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was known by all as "Chazman."
Born in Baltimore, MD, November 10, 1946, he was the son of the late John Fendrickand Magdalene (Wagner) Fendrick and spent the past 50 years in Drifton, after moving from West Hazleton.
Charles was a 1964 graduate of West Hazleton High School where he played basketball. He was a Veteran in the Army where he served from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam Conflict driving supplies and ammunition to the soldiers on the front lines. He received the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Once returning home from the war, Charles immediately began work as a Master Mechanic for PPL for 37 years, stationed at the Berwick Nuclear Plant before retiring. He loved to share his work stories and point out all the poles he constructed on every street in Hazleton. He was a member of St. Cyril and Methodious Parrish at the Church of St. Joseph, Hazleton. He was also a member of Freeland VFW Post 5010, Edgewood in the Pines Golf Club where he especially enjoyed golfing with the Mad Hackers Golf League. He participated in many charity golf tournaments and left his love of golf as a legacy for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, Marco Island, and Aruba. A few of his hidden talents included wine making, tinkering with cars, and baking his famous pies.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother Leo Fendrick.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Dobash) Fendrick to whom he was married on September 19th, 1970 in Holy Trinity Slovak Church, Hazleton. Also surviving are a son Charles R. Fendrick Jr, and wife Renee, Pardeesville; 2 daughters Danielle Schlauch and husband Brian, Eagle Rock; Nicole Richmond and husband William, Dunkirk, MD; sister Bernadine Fendrick, Carlsbad, CA; 6 grandchildren Isabelle Wohlleber, James Wohlleber, Malena Fendrick, Marco Fendrick, William Richmond, and Ryan Richmond; and niece Lauren Fedrick.
His funeral will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Thursday June 6, 2024 at St, Cyril and Methodious Parrish at the Church of St. Joseph, 604 N Laurel St. Hazleton. Internment will take place privately. Friends may call for a memorial visitation Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM. at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East),669 W. Butler Drive, Drums.
