Charles Norman Charest, 101, of Drums, formerly of Sugarloaf, passed away July 31, 2023, at Providence Place Retirement Community in Drums.
Born in Danville on February 6, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Edna (Dodge) Charest and spent the past 25 years in Sugarloaf after moving from California.
Norman earned two degrees in mining and electronic engineering for Lehigh University, working around the world and CA for many years. After retiring, he started real estate developments. He was a US Army veteran during WWII, having served for six months in 1944, and received an honorable discharge for an unforeseen injury. Norm was a brilliant, interesting, humorous man and a fantastic storyteller. He wrote several novels and even published a book on the Theory of Relativity. Norm loved writing thought-provoking and entertaining letters. Some of his most memorable were to PBS and former California governor Jerry Brown. All who have spent time with him will surely miss his wit and charm.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his loving wife, the former Addy Bruecken, who passed away, August 6, 2005; a brother, John Charest; and a sister, Betty Kaseler.
Surviving are his good friends, Rosemarie Petrilla and her husband Mark, Sugarloaf; and several nieces and nephews including, Tom Noble, Port Richie, FL; and Marlane Smutka, Colorado Springs, CO.
His funeral will be held with a graveside service on Tuesday August 8, 2023 at 10:30 AM in Indiantown Gap National Military Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Road, Annville. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
