Betty Lucille Konjusky, 97, of Orefield, PA and formerly of West Hazleton and Conyngham, passed away December 15, 2024, at Whitehall Manor in Whitehall, PA, following a two-year illness.
Born in West Hazleton, November 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lucille (Higgins) Parsons, and her adoptive parents, Joel and Gladys Parsons. She spent the past 16 years in Orefield, PA after moving from Hazle Township, PA.
Betty Lou was a graduate of West Hazleton High School class of 1944. Entering nurse's training in the US Army Cadet Nurse Corps, she proudly graduated from Jefferson University Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career spanned over 50 years with diverse positions including private duty and staff nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hazleton, Ogara's Nursing Home, Conyngham, an Industrial Nurse at Tung Sol, Hazleton, and a Psychiatric Nurse at the Whitehaven Center. While at White Haven, she represented Psych Nurses I, II, and Interns as their President, and served a term as Vice President of District 3 Luzerne County PA Nurses Association, exemplifying her dedication to her beloved field.
As a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Conyngham, Betty Lou served on the Willing Worker's Committee and was a member of the Interfaith Council. She was also a member of the Hazleton Public Health Nurses, a charter member of the CVCO, and a member of the Jefferson University Alumni Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cross stitch, bowling, swimming at Conyngham pool, and traveling with her children and friends.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, Albert A. "JR" Konjusky, who passed away February 3, 2012 ; and her sons-in-law, Arnold Kline and George J. Hudock Jr.
Surviving are three children, LuAnne Kline, Orefield; Margaret "Peggy" Hudock, Quakertown; and Alan R. Konjusky and his wife Katherine, Lancaster; two grandchildren, Megan E. Hudock and George J. Hudock, III. and his wife Regina; two great-grandchildren, Jaxton James Hudock, and Remi Marie Hudock, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11 AM in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 467 S Main St, Conyngham. Burial will follow in St. John's Lutheran and UCC Cemetery, Drums. Friends may call at the Church on Thursday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service.
