Betty L. (Zehner) Dietrich

Betty L. Dietrich, 100, of Rock Glen, passed away Saturday evening, February 10, 2024, at The Laurels Senior Living Community in Hazleton, where she had resided for the past three years. 

Born in Sugarloaf, April 22, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Warren F. and Mildred (Ansbach) Zehner and spent the past 40 years in Rock Glen, after moving from Philadelphia. 

Betty was a graduate of Black Creek Township High School in 1940, and Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.  She then taught at Chalfont Elementary School for 36 years, having retired in 1982. 

She was a lifetime member of the Bucks County Retired Teachers Association and the Bloomsburg Alumni Association.  She was also a member of Black Creek United Methodist Church, where she served on the PPR committee, Trustees, Administrative Board, and Education Committee, and had been a Sunday school secretary for 17 years.  She was also active in the United Methodist Women's group of her church where she served as treasurer for 19 years and had also served 10 years as the church's representative to Hazleton Enlarged Ministries.  She was also a charter member of the PA State Teachers' Association-Retired; a past member of the Twin County Lionettes where she served as Vice President, President, and Secretary.  

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, Francis "Bud" Dietrich, who passed on April 8, 1998; seven brothers Daniel, Clair, Fred, Carl, Ben, Wright and infant Roy Zehner; and five sisters, Joyce Torck, Dorothy Gerhard, Alma Hartranft, Evelyn Wagner, and infant Helen Zehner. 

Surviving are her sister, Virginia Shank, Rock Glen; many nieces and nephews; and her two god-daughters, Vicki Harman and her husband Mark, Rock Glen; and Jeanne Calvi and her husband Charles, VA.  

Her funeral will be held Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11 AM in Black Creek U.M. Church 158 Golf Course Road, Sugarloaf. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (West), 1265 Rock Glen Road, Rock Glen, on Wednesday evening, February 14, 2024 from 6-8 PM and Thursday morning in Black Creek U.M. Church from 10 AM until time of service.
