Bernard Dill Obituary

Dr. Bernard C. Dill, 88, of Sugarloaf, passed away late Thursday evening, July 30, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New York City, NY, August 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Anna Dill and was raised in Hazleton, PA. He spent the past 30 years in Sugarloaf, after moving from West Hazleton and spending ten years living out of the area.

Bernard was a 1949 graduate of Hazleton High School, completed his BS undergraduate and his MBA degrees from Penn State University in 1955 and 1961 respectively, and earned his Doctorate of Business Administration from George Washington University in 1971. He was Professor Emeritus at Bloomsburg University where he was Department Chair of Business Administration and taught Finance for over 30 years. He was a passionate educator and loved hearing from his former students and learning of their accomplishments post-graduation. He also served as President of the local Penn State Alumni Club. He was an avid reader and traveler, and traveled extensively around the US, Europe, and Asia with his wife Kathleen. Known as Pop-pop to his four grandchildren, he found great joy watching them grow and dispensing grandfatherly wisdom to them on a regular basis.

Surviving are his loving wife, the former Kathleen Matarella to whom he was married on September 12, 1959; two children, Patricia Rinvelt and her husband Jeffrey, Ann Arbor, MI; and Paul Dill and his wife Dawn, West Newton, MA; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Anna Rinvelt, both of Ann Arbor, MI; and Theo and Maggie Dill, both of West Newton, MA.

An educator to the very end, Bernard graciously donated his body to science through Humanity Gifts Registry. All services will be private at the convenience of the family. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family.
