Barbara M. Lazur, 89, of Newport Beach, California, and formerly of Hazleton Heights, Hazleton, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday morning, June 28, 2024, at her home in Newport Beach, CA following a short illness.
Born in Stockton #7, May 22, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Mary (Kimock) Hirko and spent the past 11 years in Newport Beach, CA after moving from Los Angeles. She had resided with her daughter since the summer of 2013.
Barbara graduated from Hazle Township High School in 1953 and the Empire Beauty School in 1969. She was a cosmetologist and shop owner of Barbara Lazur's Beauty Salon in Hazleton for 30 years. Barbara was a parishioner of Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish at the Church of Saint Joseph, Hazleton. She was also a member of the Newport Beach Oasis Senior Center. In retirement, Barbara dedicated her time to activities with her grandchildren. Her hobbies and interests included playing the piano, crossword puzzles, reading murder mysteries, daily prayers for those in need and devotion to the Roman Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her loving husband, John L. Lazur who passed away May 3, 2009. They were married for 49 years. Barbara was also preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Puhak, and brothers, John, Jr. and James Hirko.
Surviving are her daughter, Lizabeth and son(-in-law), Dr. David Yudis, and grandchildren, Gabriel and Blossom, and loyal dog, Luna, Newport Beach, CA; a brother-in-law, Richard Brogan, West Chester, PA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her funeral will be held with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10AM in Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish at the Church of Saint Joseph, 604 N Laurel St, Hazleton, PA 18201, followed by interment in Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Drums. Close family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9 AM until the time of the Mass. Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 West Butler Drive, Drums, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
