Angelo W. Castellon, 93, of The Villages, Florida, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at The Lighthouse Inn Nursing Center in Fruitland Park, FL.
Born in New York City, NY on August 29, 1930, he was the son of the late Angelo and Candalaria (Roja) Castellon and spent the past six years in The Villages, Florida after moving from Drums in 2017.
Angelo was a Mechanical Engineer for Raytheon Service Company in Burlington, MA and worked on many missile designs including the Patriot, Sidewinder and SeaHawk. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 - 1953. He was a member of the 1844 C BTRY 623rd FA BN and received the United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze stars. He was a member of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Anne RC Church, Freeland before moving to Florida, and a member of St. Timothy RC Church in The Villages. He served on the Honor Guard of the Valley Vets VFW Post #8161, Conyngham, and was a Past President of the Freeland Rotary. He also enjoyed reading, antiquing with his wife, and weekly trips to the library.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife Joan (Roman) Castellon, and a sister Evelyn Niesner.
Surviving are his daughter Linda Hodge and her husband Scott of The Villages, FL; a cousin Joseph Mates of St. Charles, MO; and his granddaughter of the heart, Catelyn Tassone and husband Nicholas, Upton, MA. Also surviving are his niece, Bonnie Wood, Clinton, NY, and his nephew, Richard Wood and wife Pam of Cherry Log, GA. He is also survived by several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 9:15 AM from Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Anne RC Church, 898 Centre St, Freeland. Burial will follow in Conyngham Union Cemetery, Conyngham. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening, October 23, 2023, from 6-8PM.
