Amelia Bergeron Obituary

Amelia "Millie" Bergeron, of Conyngham, daughter of the late Walter and Eva (Skotnicki) Szela passed away on October 1, 2022. 

Born in Meriden, CT on March 29, 1933, she attended local schools and was graduated from Meriden Senior High School in 1951.  She received her B.S. degree, cum laude, from Central Connecticut University in 1955 and taught at the Israel Putnam and Benjamin Franklin Schools.  She moved to Hazleton in 1965 and Conyngham in 1985.  She taught at the former Msgr. Molino Elementary School and for the Hazleton Area School District.  A member of Saint John Bosco Church, Sugarloaf, she was a lector, lector trainer, cantor, a member of the adult, funeral, and chime choirs, a facilitator for RCIA and RENEW, taught CCD and Summer Celebration, conducted a Summer Story Hour, and was a member of the liturgy and arts and environment committees.  She will be remembered for all of the bulletin boards that she created.  She served in various aspects of church functions, some of which she co-chaired.  She was secretary of Parish Council and a member of National Pastoral Musicians.

She organized the P.T.A. at the former Locust Street School and served as president, vice president, and treasurer there and at the Poplar Street School.  She was a former member of AAUW and organized the Book Review Club in Connecticut, which she facilitated.  She was president of the Greater Hazleton Concert Series for 21 years, and also served as publicity and marketing chairperson.  She was a charter member of Butler Senior Citizens and Hazleton Oratorio.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband Louis, who passed away February 4, 2010 after 53 years of marriage; and a son Thomas, August 13, 2000.

Surviving are her daughters Lisa, Lancaster; Michelle, Conyngham; and Amy, Yoe; her son Gerard, Conyngham; two grandchildren Dylan and Sydney Bergeron Mikus; cousins Valerie Bubon and Patricia Mikishka, Meriden, CT; and several nieces and nephews

Her funeral will be held Friday, October  7, 2022 at 1 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Bosco RC Church, 573 State Route 93, Sugarloaf.  Friends may call at the church Friday from Noon until the time of the Mass.  Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
